This study invites you to strap on your sandals and grab a hammer. Together with the Remnant, we will come to discover that restoration and grace triumphs in any life left in the ruins, no matter how desperate.

 

Judah's Story: Restored covers the chronological story of Judah from their release from captivity up through the 400 years of silence.

The Remnant was released from captivity and ready to go home! But they don't go empty-handed. They are loaded with provisions, supplies and the temple vessels. At the helm of the restoration crew, is a Governor and a Priest. Welcome to the journey.

The way home to Zion was paved with praise and thanksgiving. On their arrival, in the midst of the rubble, the altar was reconstructed and offerings were made for the atonement of sin.

The foundation is reconstructed with much joy and celebration! .... and weeping?? Who would be crying at a time like this??

The altar is built, the foundation is laid and the enemy shows up. Doesn't he always. How do we guard ourselves against the enemy's tactics of discouragement, fear, and condemnation? By the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony.

Which house comes first? When you seek first the Kingdom, everything else will be added. But, if you try to fill your life with everything other, you will be discontented.

Idols are a snare to the heart of God's people. When Ezra arrives in Jerusalem, he is tasked with a grueling assignment. But, the Remnant repents, again. Oh, how we underestimate sin and its consequences

Even after all this time, Jerusalem remained defenseless without walls or gates. When Nehemiah heard about the state of Jerusalem, he was moved to get involved. When he asked the king about it, he was shown great favor and was fully equipped with everything he needed to get the job done. It is a great lesson to learn.

Nehemiah went on a covert mission to check on the status of Jerusalem's defenses, and they were found wanting. How do we guard our temple without strong defenses? How do we shore them up?

Oh, if these walls could talk. Come take a tour of the old defenses. What happened at each gate and what do they have to tell us? How do they apply to us today and tomorrow?

Warfare is hard. Hard. As the Remnant grew bone-weary, Nehemiah encourages them in the Lord, sticks a sword in their hand, points them back to the work and says "Remember the Lord and FIGHT"

When a food shortage strikes Judea, some in Jerusalem take advantage of the less fortunate, holding them captive to their debt. Do we do that to each other? What does the Word say about that?

There is much joy and celebration in Jerusalem as the walls are completed. And much grief as well. The joy of the Lord is your strength! What does that mean and why did Nehemiah say this?

As the Remnant comes full circle, we are reminded of God's grace and faithfulness towards us. Though the Bible falls silent for 400 years, the Lord was at work setting the stage for the coming Messiah.
