Secure Faith — Studies in Habakkuk

A 6-Week Study

Follow the prophet’s cry as he wrestles with what he sees, waits for what the Lord will say, and learns that faith can stand secure even when everything around him begins to shake.

Habakkuk looked at Judah and saw violence, injustice, wickedness, and a people who had turned from the Lord. He cried out to God, asking how long He would allow it to continue. Then the answer came—and it was nothing Habakkuk expected. Judgment was coming, and the Lord would raise up the Babylonians to accomplish it. The prophet who had begun by questioning God’s silence was suddenly wrestling with God’s answer.

Secure Faith walks through the Book of Habakkuk as the prophet moves from confusion to clarity, from questioning to confidence, and ultimately from fear to worship. Stand with Habakkuk as he brings his questions before the Lord, climbs the watchtower to wait for an answer, hears the woes pronounced against Babylon, and finally looks ahead to the coming judgment of God. Along the way, one declaration rises from the pages and becomes an anchor for generations to come: “The righteous shall live by his faith.”

But Habakkuk’s circumstances do not change before his faith does. Judah is still headed toward judgment. Babylon is still coming. The fields may fail, the stalls may stand empty, and everything visible may give way. Yet Habakkuk learns to rejoice in the Lord and find his strength in the God of his salvation. His story calls us beyond a faith secured by what we can see to a faith made secure by the character, sovereignty, and faithfulness of God.
