The Christian life is a race of faith. The course is set before us, the call is to endurance, and our eyes are fixed upon Jesus.
Scripture repeatedly uses the imagery of a race to describe the life of faith. We are called to run with purpose, lay aside every weight, endure when the course becomes difficult, and refuse to turn aside before the finish. Yet we were never called to run in our own strength. The God who calls us to the race is the One who prepares, strengthens, sustains, and faithfully carries His people through every mile.
The Race is a seven-week journey through Scripture examining what it means to run the race of faith with endurance. Along the course, you will explore the preparation and disciplines necessary for the race, the hindrances that threaten to weigh us down, the perseverance required when weariness sets in, and the encouragement God provides through His Word and His people. You will also consider the finish that lies ahead and the eternal reward for which we run.
But the heart of this race is not our ability to run harder or perform better. Again and again, Scripture turns our attention away from ourselves and toward Jesus Christ. He is the author and perfecter of our faith, the One who endured the cross, and the One upon whom our eyes must remain fixed. The race requires endurance, but we do not run alone or without hope. The One who called us to the course is faithful to sustain us all the way to the finish line.
